The interventional radiology (IR) team covers an array of specialties including renal, hepato-biliary, MSK, oncology and vascular, with a wide and complex range of procedures on offer.
We already provide treatments and diagnostic tests in a ‘theatre-like’ environment at two sites but our dynamic development plans will put the service truly at the forefront of innovation and excellence over the next few years. Our plans include expanding the service into the Glenfield Hospital and building a hybrid theatre and new IR suites.
We often utilise cutting edge technologies and equipment, making our work lives varied and exciting with a high level of job satisfaction. For example, we have already achieved exemplar status for vascular radiology in the British Society of Interventional Radiology’s (BSIR) UK-wide quality improvement initiative.
We believe that by working together to provide the best patient-focused care we can make a massive difference to individuals’ diagnosis and treatment options, whilst supporting families and carers.
We deliver services as a multi-disciplinary team, in a friendly and supportive working environment. Staff are encouraged to take up the opportunity to extend their roles as appropriate, including change of nephrostomy catheters, barium studies and hystosalpingograms. We also have a nurse-led vascular access team for placing PICC and Hickman lines.
