Departments throughout our hospitals rely on clerical and reception colleagues as part of the wider healthcare team.

They support clinical staff to provide an efficient service to patients, help with the smooth running of departments and can sometimes be the first point of contact for patients, welcoming them into our services.

These are critical roles, so we need our clerical and reception team members to be accurate and methodical, able to work in a team but use their own initiative and willing to follow instructions and procedures. It’s also crucial that you are able to work with all types of people, are confident using the phone, and have skills in organisation, communication, IT and customer service.

Clerical and reception responsibilities include a wide variety of tasks such as:

  • Welcoming patients when they arrive at reception
  • Answering the phone and booking patients in for appointments
  • Filing and photocopying
  • Chasing up reports
  • Inputting data and processing letters, notes etc
  • Ordering stationery
  • Booking patient transport.

We offer various training and education opportunities for those team members who would like our help in progressing their career with us. Find out more about the support we offer our employees here.
