The colorectal unit at UHL is the largest in the United Kingdom. Our unit has excellent outcomes for colorectal cancer with a low 90-day mortality. We offer laparoscopic and robotic surgery, TEMS (transanal endoscopic microsurgery) and surgery for recurrent rectal cancer.
In addition to colorectal cancer, we have expertise in managing inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disorders and large complex incisional hernias.
Our core team comprises 12 colorectal surgeons and a dedicated team of colorectal specialist nurses and stoma nurses, based on two sites across the Leicester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Our specialist team includes oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists and inflammatory bowel disease nurses.
We have a strong commitment to clinical teaching, and offer dedicated ward teaching and monthly teaching for middle grades and journal clubs.
