Our surgical services span colorectal surgery for Leicestershire, upper GI surgery for Leicestershire, Rutland and Northampton, and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB), servicing a population of two and a half million patients.
We offer high elective surgical activities, including over 800 laparoscopic cholecystectomies. We have a purpose built surgical assessment unit, have the highest national throughput of colorectal cancer, and are the regional centre for anal cancer surgery.
The team is made up of 12 consultant gastroenterologists, 12 higher specialist trainees, 11 junior medical trainees, and six nurse endoscopists.
Our wider team includes GI specialist dietitians and intestinal failure specialist dietitians, GI radiologists, upper GI, colorectal and hepatobiliary and intestinal failure surgeons, as well as the cancer centre.
We uphold a strong commitment to clinical teaching and dedicated ward teaching. We offer a good grounding in core services as well as experience of specialist surgical procedures. We offer students journal clubs, and the opportunity to study within our laparoscopic skills unit.
We offer an excellent academic portfolio, as well as representation at national and international conferences.
