An ordinary day for extraordinary people

Working in emergency care at Leicester’s Hospitals is an amazing experience. You will work with people from all walks of life and have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients.
We are one of the largest emergency departments (EDs) in Europe providing emergency care for critically sick and injured patients. Every day is different so if variety is what you are looking for, this is the place for you!

There will be opportunities to learn special skills such as suturing and applying plaster casts, as well as providing specialist care for the older people in our pioneering emergency frailty unit. We also have facilities to provide ongoing care for post trauma and asthmatic patients as well as several other specialist pathways in our emergency decisions unit (EDU). We have a designated children’s ED where we care for younger people.

We have a range of options for your career development from staff nurse to practitioners. Our evolving service has a wealth of knowledge and experience within our nursing teams which include advanced nurse practitioners who specialise in autonomous practice in both adult and paediatric ED, emergency nurse practitioners and a mental health nurse.

If you like acute medicine, there are opportunities for you to work on our acute medical assessment unit where you will continue to care for our patients in a fast-paced environment, utilising the skills of experienced and supportive nurses who care passionately about the work they do. We have an acute care bay within the admissions unit where we look after our acutely unwell patients and where you will have the opportunity to develop your skills to provide excellent high dependency care for your patients.

Our ED has a reputation for excellent training and development and has designated sisters to support you in an environment which nurtures and develops staff. You will develop leadership skills to the highest level and we will support you to reach your goals. We value all of our staff and have an excellent team ethos and know that happy staff are the key to providing an excellent patient experience. We want you to become an exceptional nurse to allow us to provide a gold standard service for all emergency patients.

Our patients are at the centre of everything we do and we strive to make their experience a positive one. If you are dynamic, hardworking and motivated to make a difference, whether you are a newly qualified or experienced nurse, we look forward to welcoming you to a team who are passionate, motivated and dedicated to providing excellence in emergency care.

We moved into a state of the art, purpose built emergency department in Spring 2017, which is fit for purpose for the future needs of Leicestershire. Its design is frail and older person friendly.
